Thanks to everyone who has written me during the past few weeks expressing appreciation for my character generators. I am happy that I can now bring most of them back online.
Special thanks to Stephen McArthur, Esq. and to the people at WoTC to whom we all owe so much.

This little program is my gift to my fellow-gamers, and my way of saying "thank you" to the hobby's developers. Over a quarter-century, I have enjoyed a cordial relationship with people at TSR/WOTC. In return, I'm glad to help make the process of character creation easier for everyone. Happy adventuring!
This big javascript program runs best on "Netscape" browsers. It performs poorly on "Google Chrome." It does not work on some versions of "Opera" and "Safari"; if someone can tell me what I need to do to make the code compatible with these browsers, I would be most grateful.
If you want to save your character's html file to your hard drive, Netscape seems to work better. Many people have found that saving them as Word documents works well. For some browsers, the best way to save the character sheet is to select "print" and save in .pdf format.
Please be sure your browser is javascript-enabled. You may need to turn off your anti-popup program.
Please accept my apologies if this large program fails to load on your computer.
So far, this usually seems to work okay on Netscape, but is slower on Explorer. It takes some time to get started, during which the browser may seem to be locked.
I have fixed the way action points are calculated (6/11). Sorry for any problems this may have caused in the past.
It will eventually be possible to select mutation damage boost and the psionic mutations more than once each.
d20 Future abilities are still under development.
Dark Matter material is still under development.
Eventually I may add the CyberRaver gray wealth. For now, "Street Broker" increases gray wealth by 3, and adds +1 to streetwise knowledge each time it is selected.
The role-playing games by TSR/Wizards of the Coast celebrate heroic adventure.
Much of their enduring appeal is the focus on right and wrong. I think it helps young people make the right decisions in real-life.
Another reason people enjoy role-playing games is that they teach cooperation. Adventurers with widely differing abilities must learn to work together so that everyone wins.
I'm laid-back on how you prepare for advanced classes, but you do need to spend points for the qualifications. I did not know what to do about minimum abilities to cast various spells at various levels.
Hand-edit to customize your sheet in keeping with other publications and/or your own group's ideas. I did not include the wealth system, since my readings online suggest many (most?) groups do not use it. For star law officers, I simply made all skills class skills. You are on your honor.
You are more than welcome to download these generators to your own computers and share them with your friends. Simply use your browser's "File -- Save" function to your hard disk. If you modify them, please give credit to me as original programmer, and do not make an evil-oriented generator.
Of course, I am grateful to TSR/WOTC, who developed and own the game system and graciously allow others to work with it. Thanks also to Joseph Frana, who reminded me to include class defense bonuses in touch and flatfooted armor classes. (This was confirmed 2/3/04 at the WOTC/TSR website.) Thanks to Haskell McRavin for suggesting that Firefox users encountering difficulty might try an extension called "User Agent Switcher 0.6.7". Other help with debugging came from Ron Firnrohr, Lord Ewin, Nick Fisher, Steffan Foxhunter, Alec Comyn, Ted Yu, Ronald Segrest, Rebecca Landry, Chapin Mahoney, Joseph Johnson, Charles Osborne, Adina Alder, JC Madden, Matt C., Sam Garrett, Steve Gorski, Chris Pickell, Brian Schoner, Devan Dahle, James Benton, Chris Pilkington, Bruce Bruhnke, Russ Jones, Michael McGloin, Joseph Frana, Ben Kage, Robert Ravens, Roland Kippenhan, Robert Kinley Johnson, Jay Jenkins, Deborah Teramis Christian (noted author), Jon Mance, Scott Scott / Tharpe, Bob Vincelette, Chris Shaw, Michael McGloin, Tom Stevens, Indi D, Sqrrl101, "Blacki Midnyte", Joseph Scharfenberg, Richard Dodd, John Meyers, Ryan Singer, Stephen Williams, Michael Martin, Jerry Hong, Joey M, Robert Cartwright, and Vince. There is a web enhancement that provides information on additional prestige classes for Urban Arcana. Thanks to Doug Odell for pointing this out. (I gave all these prestige classes the usual 7 action points per level.)
The original "Shadow-Chasers" material was published in Polyhedron, March 2002. It was a forerunner to "d20 Modern" but the base classes are somewhat different and I was concerned that the racial templates and advanced classes would not interface well with this generator. If this was a mistake, I'm sorry. Your group may wish to use some or all of this material.
I have not implemented racial levels for non-human characters. For example, a drow fast hero simply has a level adjustment of +2. This would have taken too much programming space and increased the likelihood that the script would not run on some machines.
If you want a human character taller than 6'8" using the Enlarged Form mutation, please hand-edit your sheet.
This page, which will be continually under construction, is intended to help people begin enjoying adventure gaming.

More about "d20 Modern":
| Wizards of the Coast -- d20 Modern |
In real life, I am a pathologist
with an interest in forensics.
Now, thanks to Mark Ricketts at Hogshead Publishing (link is now down),
you role-play a pathologist or any of the forensics professionals with whom we work.
This can be played stand-alone, or integrated with a system like d20 Modern.
In constructing "forensics pathologist" as a character class, Ricketts even mentions that we possess a "feat" which enables us to bring a touch of humor, humanity, and humility to even the darkest of human experiences. Thank you, Mark! |
A large volume of adventures may be grasped within this little span of life, by him who interests his heart in everything. |
I hope you have found this helpful
and that you enjoy d20 Modern.
I have granted permission (6/23/04) for Chris Copeland to mirror and adapt these generators, with the understanding that they will always be freely available to anyone who wants them.
