This uterus was removed because of adenocarcinoma of the endometrium, the common uterine cancer arising from the inner lining.
The first picture shows the uterus cut in cross section. The cervix is at the left. The cancer is a cauliflower-like mass. in the uterine cavity. Look for areas of bleeding within the cancer, and notice how the invasive cancer fades into the muscular wall. It does not seem to have reached the surface.
Under the microscope, you can see bizarre cells forming clusters of glands. Some cells are part of at least two different gland-like structures. This usually means cancer. These cells are more anaplastic than in most adenocarcinomas of the endometrium, so this tumor is likely to be more aggressive.
