You can see the lone stand of intact mucosa next to the ulcer. When the ulcers become confluent, the remaining mucosa forms pseudopolyps.
On the left, you can see mucosa with normal crypts. Adjacent there is a lot of necrotic debris where the mucosa used to be. This ulcer has a flat base and does not penetrate into the muscularis propria.
