Forgotten Realms Character GeneratorThis program is still under development.
These programs are my gift to my fellow-gamers, and my way of saying "thank you" to the hobby's developers. Over a quarter-century, I have enjoyed a cordial relationship with people at TSR/WOTC. In return, I'm glad to help make the process of character creation easier for everyone. Happy adventuring!
This big javascript program runs best on "Netscape" browsers.
Please accept my apologies if this large program fails to load on your computer.
If you want to save your character's html file to your hard drive, Netscape seems to work better. Many people have found that saving them as Word documents works well. For some browsers, the best way to save the character sheet is to select "print" and save in .pdf format.
Please report all errors and bugs. Contact me at scalpel_blade@yahoo.com. We are using Edition 3.5 rules, so, for example, you won't find the "ambidextrous" feat. Thanks!
Ed Greenwood's "Forgotten Realms" may be the most popular setting for D&D campaigns. For mature gamers, much of the fun of adventure gaming comes from exploring different philosophies of life. "The gods" of nominally-polytheistic Toril are obviously as fictitious as its dragons. They are described in the brilliant "Campaign Setting" primarily in terms of their core beliefs and teachings. These mirror those of our own world. So do their struggles and triumphs. Many people will probably think of them as sect leaders, angelic beings interested in the spiritual development of mortal folk.
Whatever you decide, the Realms are so richly realized that you will probably find a sect whose idea of the good life matches your own. Only those who ignore the great questions of life find themselves homeless when their adventures are over.
So far I have included the following sources:
I will probably not be able to add anything substantial in the near future. The program size is already at about what is manageable for many computers. I am still missing some material. I will probably not add feats from the older "Magic of Faerun", or the more recent "Serpent Kingdoms" or "Champions of Ruin", the loxo or thri-kreen races, or any more prestige classes.
Could someone please send me some or all of the following:Feats and prestige classes from the other books can be hand-entered. I chose not to list human subraces separately. For unusual races and classes, NPC classes, templates, artificers, psionics, exalted and vile content, generating titles, flaws to balance feats, variant classes, mounts for large paladins (would a wemic or centaur ride a mount in any case?), idiosyncratic weapons and armor, epic characters (these are so important they should probably be hand-generated), and so forth, please visit my main program instead. I simply do not have programming room here.
- Regional feats to which derro may be entitled; same for illithids, loxo, thri-kreen.
- Locales with significant illithid populations; locales with significant derro populations.
Thanks. As I get these from visitors, I'll add/fix the races. Mail me at scalpel_blade@yahoo.com. A huge thanks to Gabi/Pumpkin. May your dice come up 20's.
The "Races of Faerun" system for lycanthropy is distinctive for the campaign world so I felt it was right to to include it. I may be able to add yuan-ti tainted someday. Lycanthropes of other species are easy to hand-edit.
As with the other generators, I allowed the feats "Martial Weapon Proficiency" and "Exotic Weapon Proficiency" to give access to all weapons of the respective groups. Since many clerics are encouraged to select one of the feats in order to wield the sect's weapon, referees may want to disallow additional weapons that the program allows to be taken, or require that "Other Feat" be checked. For example, a single-classed cleric of Tyr is likely to want to fight with a longsword, and may do so by choosing "Martial Weapon Proficiency." A strict referee could enforce a non-proficiency penalty if the cleric also chooses to bring a longbow and arrows.
For those choosing the metal domain, a free Weapon Focus is included as a bonus feat; instead of allowing "martial weapon proficiency or exotic weapn proficiency as appropriate", help yourself to any hammer.
I gave humanoids and monstrous humanoids the same rate of feat progression and ability gain in their racial classes as for character classes. This is only slightly generous, and saved programming room.
I did not add the suggested regional feats from "Races of Faerun", since all are available as general feats, though with racial limitations.
Some popular feats include augmented healing (+1 on each die of each healing spell), improved toughness (one extra hit point per level), zen archery (wisdom bonus can replace dexterity bonus for missile fire), or the sudden metamagic feats (once per day, a spellcaster can use a metamagic feat on a known spell, without having to decide in advance.) I do not know whether these exist on Toril, and so to be faithful to the "Forgotten Realms" setting, I have omitted them. Energy substitution (for example, a wizard can cast fireball to produce acid damage) is mentioned in the older "Magic of Faerun" supplement; whether to use this in a 3.5-edition campaign would be up to the referee.
This and my other generators will stay online indefinitely despite the upcoming fourth edition.
Thanks to M. Moloko, Will Johnson, John McConnell, Mark Couch, Darth Xaos, Brian Geibel, Carter C, and Charles Jobe for help with the debugging.
As always, your comments are welcome. Happy adventuring.
