Fatty Ingrowth, Right Ventricle

The fibers of the muscular heart have been separated. The muscle cells are still alive, as you can tell from their infact nuclei.

When this is very extensive, it could perhaps decrease afterload by thickening the wall. Minor fatty ingrowth is very common though, especially in the right ventricle.

The muscle fibers are pink and the fat cells are clear. Notice there is no fat within the heart fibers themselves. That would indicate diphtheria or severe anemia or poisoning.

You can see some engorged venules at the lower right.
