Crytococcus organisms are round with a thick mucoid capsule and have a single bud.
In this immunocompromised patient (this particular example is from an AIDS patient), notice the clear areas surrounding the round Cryptococcus organisms (pale grey with dark rim--mucoid capsule). A retraction artifact of the mucoid capsules cause these clear areas surrounding the single bud.
