This is a necrotizing pneumonia. There are abundant neutrophils in a heavy exudate. You can still distinguish the alveolar septa, but the cells within them are mostly dead. You can tell this because the nuclei are shrivelled or absent. Often this kind of pneumonia is caused by Klebsiella pneumoniae.
